| "Turidae" Flute and Harp or Flute and Violin Duo |
|||||||||||||||||||
| We, Lisa Carlson and Mariah Carlson-Kirigin, or "Turidae", are a versatile mother/daughter duo of either flute and harp or flute and violin. Flute and harp is a much sought after choice for weddings and many other occasions. With our duo, you have the option of the lively sound of the flute and fiddle alternating with the mellow and ultimate sweetness of flute and harp, or you can just choose one combo. Our repertoire for flute and harp tends to be primarily folk, with emphasis on Celtic, while our repertoire for flute and violin ranges from light classical to folk fiddle. | Mariah began her instrumental music career when she started flute at age 2. Piano followed at 5, and violin at 6. The mother/daughter duo have been performing together professionally since Mariah was 7. At that time, Mariah had a very strong interest in harp and decided to begin the process of earning one. Together, the duo, and sometimes trio with her sister Clara, played in a variety of venues, primarily as street musicians, until Mariah earned her harp at age 10. Two years later, her harp teacher, Mary Fran Stafford, began recommending her as a harpist for weddings and other events.
In August of 2007 they recorded their first full hour television program as a duo at the Orca Media studio, appearing on cable TV stations in Montpelier and Barre. The program aired at least 6 times in the fall of 2007, and was well received. This was Mariah’s third television appearance as a musician, having once appeared on the Channel 3 news, fiddling and clogging with her sister Clara, and once with a harp circle on a cable station in Barre. Mariah, and/or the Carlson-Kirigin family, has also received press attention for musical endeavors from the Burlington Free Press, the Middlesex Occasional, and Vermont Public Radio. Mariah also plays violin with the Colchester based Vermont Youth Orchestra, and sings in the select choir “Camerata” at U-32 High School. For Lisa's Bio, click here. |
